Wedding Dress Style Guide

Wedding dress shopping is a fabulous experience and knowing what styles of bridal gowns are out there will help you in deciding which one is for you. Here is a handy quick introduction to the main wedding dress styles available.

Princess:

Typically considered romantic in style this the pure decedent fairytale option of bridal gown. Usually having mulitiple layers to form a peticote giving it the skirt much more volume. A great option for those with a fuller bust and small hips balancing out the frame of the body. Best avoided by petite brides and those with smaller bust

A-Line

A real popular choice of wedding dress style as it suits mosts body shapes and can effectively hide any ‘problem ‘areas. It is usually a fuller skirt with a fairly modern look to it. A common choice of bridal gown style due to it flattering most body shapes.

Empire line

A style that really harks back to a bye gone era – think “Pride and Prejudice” and Mr Darcy and you’re hitting the mark. It style cuts under the bust line with a long skirt. An ideal choice of maternity wedding dress style in a flowing fabric. This style also works well for more petite brides as the it can create an illusion of height.

Fishtail

The real sexy style for a wedding dress. The dress hugs the the hips and waist but flares at the bottom. To pull this style of wedding dress off you need proportion. Needing to be rake thin is not required to make this style look fabulous on your wedding day. Don’t over-do the flare – 1980′s is still not back in fashion!

Circular Skirt

For all you Candy Anthony ladies out there – think 1950′s. With a fuller skirt and real retro style that will take you back to happy days and rock ‘n’ roll. A good choice if you want the fuller skirt option.

Column

As the name suggests this style of gown is straight up and down. Definately more understated that the fuller bridal dress styles out there but can still look fabulous and a popular choice with those wishing a more casual style dress. Avoid fabric that clings if you’ve got lumps and bumps.
