Picking Your Wedding Dress

Right girlies, this one is pretty important – the chance to wear a beautiful wedding gown on one of the most important days of your life. We all know we have been a slave to fashion at some point in the past (I still am at present) but this is one potential faux pax you can and must avoid.
In order to look your best on your wedding day, keep an open mind, you have to be open to researching the best wedding dress style for you. We all know this may not turn out to be the one you have in mind already. (That princess wedding dress I envisaged just never looked the same in the mirror than it did in my head – ouch!). Compliment your best features and showcase your body type effectively through a great dress.
So go on girls get that bridal gown of your dreams:
Firstly, browse through online wedding bridal stores and wedding dress shops to find styles that take your fancy, bearing in mind the type of wedding you may have and what will suit the over all feel you are trying to achieve on your wedding day.
Wedding dress styles to consider include, fishtail wedding dress, empire line, ballerina, halter neck, corset dress, a two piece or even a Grecian style wedding dress (check our article on wedding dress styles). Try them all! This is a once in a lifetime – experience so go on – indulge yourself.
Secondly, find local suppliers of any wedding dress collections that interest you and make appointments to try them on. Consider high street department stores wedding sections and places like monsoon in your search – keep an open mind!
Thirdly, take along a good friend, bridesmaids or MOTB with your camera/camera phone to appointments, beware most dress stores don’t let you take pictures until you make a purchase – meow!
Forth, have a really good browse in the shop and point out the type of styles to the wedding dress consultants that are of interest to you – don’t feel pressurized or intimidated – its your day, your dress and you take all the time you need. Get the consultants to suggest alternatives that they think may suit you, they will have dealt with tons of brides/know the complete stock like the back of their hand and will have a good eye for what style look good on what body shapes.
Fifth, try on, try on and try on again! In every shape – even the most unlikely, look at the different shades of fabric and what may suit your skin tone, you may then be pleasantly surprised and have the opportunity also to rule out any styles you don’t like. Try to get shots of your front runners – well you can only ask! If that doesn’t work then remember to note down the wedding dress style, designer and code and pop onto the internet back home to have a look.
Sixth, do not purchase upon first visit, give it some thought and visit a few more dress shops before selecting your final dress. If you go back to that first one so be it, there is nothing better lurking out there as you have checked out a few suppliers. Be realistic on price, dresses are out there to suit every budget anything from £150 to thousands of pound all lovely!
Go get that dress girl!
